Castle Season 7: Top Scenes, Worst Episodes & More!

$

This season of Castle had its highs and lows - but it’s hard to be disappointed when we found something to enjoy in even the weakest episodes.

From 3XK’s return and eventual demise ... to Rick’s partially explained summer disappearance ... to the mystery behind Hollander’s Woods, we're here with the top scenes, worst episode and most poignant moments from Castle Season 7.

Why did we give it an A-? Find out now...

1. Best Episode: Castle Season 7 Episode 15, Reckoning"

Best episode castle season 7 episode 15 reckoning
This may be my favorite two-parter of the series to date. Why? 3XK was a truly worthy adversary. Dr. Kelly Niemann was cold bloodedly creepy, and Rick finally outsmarted his nemesis. But this two-parter had what the others did not. Our dynamic duo got to go home together and openly comfort one another at the end of a horrifying case.

2. Worst Episode: Castle Season 7 Episode 17, "Hong Kong Hustle"

Worst episode castle season 7 episode 17 hong kong hustle
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Kate Beckett insecure. In small doses it can be fun but this felt contrived and, even worse, boring. Add to it that Beckett wrote a list of priorities for her future that the audience never saw and this was a ho-hum episode we could have done without.

3. Best Villain: 3XK

Best villain 3xk
Castle and Beckett have faced plenty of murderers over 7 seasons, but 3XK has been the smartest and most formidable of the bunch. That’s what made his return so satisfying. Watching Jerry Tyson play a highly intelligent game of cat and mouse with Castle in interrogation was a highlight of the season.

4. Funniest Moment: Ryan and Esposito Get Lucky

Funniest moment ryan and esposito get lucky
We love it when the team at the 12th precinct gets competitive and Castle Season 7 Episode 19 was no exception. Ryan and Esposito went all out to win the NYPD talent show. Our only disappointment was we didn’t get to see them do this number on stage and in costume. We’re sure it would have been hilarious.

5. Best Twist: Why Castle Writes Murder Mysteries

Best twist why castle writes murder mysteries
Rick first mentioned it back in season 2 but the truth didn’t pop up until this season. Rick Castle stumbled across a dead body and a serial killer in “Hollander’s Woods” when he was just 11-years-old. The killer who was never caught and the mystery he couldn’t solve were what drove him to become a world famous mystery writer.

6. Worst Twist: Kate Becket for Senate

Worst twist kate becket for senate
We know Beckett is extraordinary. We know she could succeed at anything but let’s face it, we don’t tune into Castle to see a show about politics. We want to see Rick and Kate living their lives and solving unique, sometimes quirky murder mysteries. Leave the politics to Scandal.

NCIS Season 12 Report Card: Grade It!

From an extensive flashback to Ducky as a cool cat... to Tony getting into a mature romantic relationship with Zoe... to McGee fumbling around in his relationship with Delilah... to the ending of Mishnev and the introduction of a brand new terrorist cell which refers to itself as The Calling...

... NCIS Season 12 had it all.

Oh, and let's not forget: we lost Agent Ned Dorneget as well.

It's now time to cover some of the highlights of the season and give it a grade. Read our TV Fanatic report card and weigh in with your thoughts on how the season went..

The 40-Year-Old Cold Case - NCIS

Best episode:NCIS Season 12 Episode 15, “Cabin Fever”

There’s just something to be said for an episode that not only featured a drunken Agent Tobias Fornell, a dry-out session at Gibbs' remote cabin, and the dramatic death (some may call it murder) of Gibbs’ most heinous enemy, Sergei Mishnev.

To add to that: we got to see a rare side of Fornell. He was entirely in love with Diane and had begun to loathe himself for telling her that he thought their romance was a mistake before she was killed. He was certain she died thinking that he didn't love her.

You have to admit: Gibbs has a unique therapy technique that was well on display with this episode: invite a grieving drunk to a cabin, offer him more alcohol, dump all of the booze the next day and then get into a fist fight (although it wasn’t much of one).

Anyway, it worked.

Worst Not the greatest episode: NCIS Season 12 Episode 4, “Choke Hold”

Strictly speaking, it wasn’t the worst because this season has been so very well written and engaging all the way through. There was no "worst."

It suffered from two things, however. The first was the introduction of Agent Pendergast as a potential love interest for Tony. She was just another Ziva (but without any of her charm) in different clothing: disrespectful and brash. I hated her immediately.

The second involved his scenes as the series clown and butt of jokes. This episode wasn’t too far into the season however, and as memory serves, this may have been the last time he was ever portrayed that way.

Most absentee romantic interest: Abby’s boyfriend U.S. Park Police Sergeant Burt Moore

Abby’s relationship with Moore started on NCIS Season 12 Episode 2“Kill the Messenger”. Although you could hardly call it a relationship so much as an intense interest they had for each other. The compelling variable was their shared love of tattoos.

We later saw him on NCIS Season 12 Episode 8“Semper Fortis”. This time, we learned they had been dating for two months, and superstitious Abby was getting ready to kick him to the curb.

Despite McGee’s effort to convince her to stick it out (as her former boyfriend), she told him to mind his own business. This, despite the fact that a few episodes earlier she’d gotten all up in Tony’s business about his love life. Double standard, much?

The neat thing was that Burt brought her a bouquet of black roses — thereby saving him from the relationship guillotine. At least of now.

We haven’t heard a thing about him since.

Most evolved character: Tony DiNozzo

This one was easy. Tony’s gone from being the clown and frat boy of the show to the mature people-loving agent who has found a mate who speaks his language.

It was amazing to see him handle McGee love life panic in NCIS Season 12 Episode 18“Status Update” — when he called him “honey” in fond exasperation over Tim’s repeated phone calls to Delilah.

Although he found an excuse not to meet his girlfriend Zoe’s parents (NCIS Season 12 Episode 16“Blast from the Past"), he turned the tables and convinced her to meet his dad four episodes later on NCIS Season 12 Episode 20“No Good Deed”. It could have gone a bit better, but as they say “Tony Senior is Tony Senior” — and he’ll always be a difficult person to deal with.

Still….this is Tony as we’ve never seen him. He’s got a mature relationship bubbling away and he’s putting others ahead of himself. We’re not even seeing as much teasing from him as we used to see.

The highlight of the season — in terms of Tony’s character development — was what I call the “McGee As Whiner” episode: when Tony and Gibbs read each other’s minds and they both made a beeline for MTAC (NCIS Season 12 Episode 19“Patience”). Tony is a competent and trustworthy senior agent, and it was a treat to see Gibbs silently acknowledge that.

Most irritating quirk: Palmer and Abby (tie).

Palmer has a habit of saying the wrong thing all the time, and it’s usually about Gibbs. His shtick is getting beyond old, to the point where it’s now predictable and irritating. He’s not a stupid man, yet he comes across that way constantly, as he says something mildly derogatory about Gibbs and then widens his eyes as he suddenly realizes Gibbs is right behind him.

It’s an old clown trick passed down from Tony, and it’s a one-note disaster. The writers need to realize that you can easily wear out a joke by using it too often. This one is so old it needs to be taken out to the junkyard, shot and then burned.

Then there’s Abby. Dear sweet Abby. She’s a lovely character and I think she’ll always be cherished by the fans. But she’s also a grown woman, and that “Gibbs! Gibbs! Gibbs! Gibbs! Gibbs!” deal has to go. I’d like to see some evolution in her character. Maybe it’s time to drop the pigtails — let’s see her as the beautiful and highly intelligent woman that she is: still delightful and still Gibbs’ favorite.

Most surprising back-story: Ducky in NCIS Season 12 Episode 3, “So It Goes”

This story gave us an excellent glimpse of Ducky as a young man: bold, brash and dangerous.

We learned that he hated bow ties and detested the idea of being around cadavers. While his later adoption of the bow tie was explained, we never learned how he ended up working as a coroner. He still has some mysteries to reveal.

We found out that he had loved a woman named Margaret, and that he had a falling out with his friend Angus over her. He never got truly serious with any woman after her — his reason was that he had watched Gibbs suffer greatly through his relationships and didn’t want to repeat his mistakes.

My grade for this season: A.

Now it's YOUR turn. What grade would you give NCIS Season 12?

The Flash Season 1: Best Crossover, Worst Villain, & More!

If a picture paints a thousand words, then imagine how many a video clip of exactly what I'm saying in words says. Right? Exactly.

Down below begins our first annual Flash report card, where we go over all of the very best and the not so very best from the season. The Flash Season 1 was, overall, very good. Although we have titled some categories as the worst, let's be honest, worst is really a stretch.

We're knocking out the best episode and the worst, as well as the same for villains, metahumans and crossovers. We also have a little nitpick (I'm sure you'll all agree) and special category for a special hero.

Hit the comments with your favorite memories of the season!

1. Best Episode: The Flash Season 1 Episode 23 "Fast Enough"

Best episode the flash season 1 episode 23 fast enough
Best Episode: The Flash Season 1 Episode 23 "Fast Enough" The finale was a culmination of everything that made The Flash so good during it's freshman season. There was an actual ending to the character arc of Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne that surprised and still managed to pluck away at our heart strings. Eddie became Series Finale MVP with his amazing heroics and Barry discovered, when he encountered himself on the fateful day his mother died, that he really had all he needed in his current life. We were even left with a hell of a cliffhanger. It was perfect.

2. Worst Episode: The Flash Season 1 Episode 6, "The Flash is Born"

Worst episode the flash season 1 episode 6 the flash is born
Worst Episode: The Flash Season 1 Episode 6, "The Flash is Born," provided us with a walk down memory lane to Barry's high school days with Iris and Tony Woodward, The Girder. The meta's story wasn't all that compelling, but the Reverse Flash started threatening Joe about Iris. It's so funny looking back when we were still scratching our heads about who he was. Honestly, nothing was "worse" here, it's just the lowest rated of the season.

3. Most Multi-Dimensional Character: Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne.

Most multi dimensional character harrison wells slash eobard tha
Most Multi-Dimensional Character: Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne. There was so much going on with this man. Any man who could love his enemy as much as Wells/Thawne did that we, his audience, hated to love him as much as we did was doing something right. The more he was written as a bad guy, the more painful it became to hear him utter those words of enouragement to Barry and especially Cisco, because we believed them. It's certainly a testament to the incredible skill of Tom Cavanaugh and his ability to bleed so many emotions into a single, multi-faceted character, but also the writing, which kept us guessing all season long.

4. Character That Needs Work: Iris West

Character that needs work iris west
Character That Needs Work: Iris West has really been a tough sell. Where the writing for Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne was multifaceted, Iris was written as one-diminsional and came off as whiny and self-involved. It didn't help that she was kept in the dark about her friend for far too long, but in general, the writing for her has been shaky. When she had the chance to stand on her own with her job at Central City Picture News, she was again force to rely on The Flash to stay ahead. We're hoping her character is given direction and purpose in The Flash Season 2, as well as a chance to do something other than prop up a boyfriend, father, surrogate brother or The Flash.

5. Most Lovable Character: Cisco Ramon

Most lovable character cisco ramon
Most Lovable Character: Cisco is not only the heart of the show, he's the character who makes all others look good and whose words drip like melted butter. He's solid gold, and not just because he figured out how to make a gold spewing gun for the Golden Glider in about 2.5 seconds or that he is the official nickname generator. He's a genuine sweetheart everybody wants to come out on top. When Wells/Thawne ripped his heart out, all of ours stopped beating for a fraction of a second, as well. Not cool! He can also make even a despised character from Arrow someone people like. (No, I do not despise her. I'm with Cisco on this one!!)

6. Best Villain: Leonard Snart aka Captain Cold

Best villain leonard snart aka captain cold
Best Villain: There's a reason Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold is going to become a Legend of Tomorrow. He absolutely rocks the fine line of villainy that we love to hate and every once in a while, realize we're coming a little closer to Wells/Thawne territory: we kinda hate to love him. He's incredibly quotable, snarky and without a care in the world what anybody else thinks of him. Well, maybe his sister. See? There's always a little something keeping him human. We know there are big things coming and hope he'll keep up appearances on The Flash into Season 2.

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Report Card: Grade It!

$

We didn't end on a happy note with The Big Bang Theory Season 8, but the it still managed to offer lots of laughs while also dealing with a major loss.

So what episode was the best, which couple was our favorite, and what geeky moment did we enjoy the most? Check out our report card below!

New Ways to Procrastinate - The Big Bang Theory

Best Episode: It's a tough choice, but the best episode overall honors Mrs. Wolowitz. The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Episode 18, titled "The Leftover Thermalization," honors her in a perfect way by bringing the entire gang together for a final feast. And thanks to Bernadette, we're also reminded of her voice one last time.

Best Couple: Howard and Bernadette. These two have always been great together, but this season allowed them to shine through the death of Howard’s mother and the move into her house. They were a solid couple with some of the funniest moments of the season.

Worst Plot Twist: Penny and Leonard take off to Vegas to get married? Seriously? As long as it’s taken these two to get together, it’s disappointing that they would want to run off and elope, but that's what they did on The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Episode 24. To make matters worse, they get in a fight on the way there that makes it seem like their relationship might be in trouble. We won’t find out how that ends until next season.

Most Underutilized Character: This may sound strange, but the answer is Leonard. His character was one of the least interesting this season, often playing a supporting role to Sheldon or Penny. The exception? The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Episode 22, when Leonard gives a meaningful, and exceedingly honest graduation speech.

Favorite Guest Appearance: As much as I want to say Nathan Fillion for this one, the best guest appearance comes from Laurie Metcalf as Mary Cooper on The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Episode 23. Christine Baranski was amazing as well, but no one compares to Sheldon's mom.

Favorite Geeky Moment: Leonard and Sheldon taking a detour to Skywalker Ranch on The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Episode 19. This is exactly the sort of thing they would do, and it's even better that Sheldon gets himself in trouble in the process. It makes for a great adventure for both of them.

Biggest Surprise: While it's not surprising that Amy finally decided to break things off with Sheldon, it is surprising that he was hiding an engagement ring. Now THAT's how you do a season finale, you guys!!!

Overall Grade: B+

The Blacklist Season 2 Report Card: Grade It!

Who would have thought that Liz would have gone from hunting blacklisters to becoming hunted by the FBI?

The Blacklist Season 2 certainly took an interesting turn by the end, but what about the rest of the sophomore season?

Battling the cabal, the return of Tom, uncovering the past about Liz, and Dembe’s amazing hat were just a few of the highlights. And of course, James Spader provided fantastic performances as Red (per usual).

So let’s break down the second season in TV Fanatic’s latest report card…

Best episode: There were actually a few episodes that could have taken this one, but I’ll give it to The Blacklist Season 2 Episode 18. We got a blacklister, Vanessa Cruz, who managed to escape from the Liz and the FBI, and yet, Red clearly has something in store for her in the future. Tom really was trying to prove himself to Liz on his journey for forgiveness, even revealing to her the big secret that Red hired him to watch Liz. We also got Liz emotionally confronting Red, even willing to give up the sacred fulcrum, right before the shocking moment of Red getting shot.

This was a well-crafted episode on all fronts that left you wanting to know more. And it really set the pace for those final episodes of the season.

Worst episode:The Blacklist Season 2 Episode 15 was a long-winded recap episode. Liz basically sat down and told the story of The Blacklist complete with intercut flashbacks. This is great for someone who’s never seen the show before, but it’s rather easy to catch up with the previously on segment at the very start of the hour and not use the entire hour. This was unfortunately just a boring waste of an episode.

Best villain: Luther Braxton takes this title, though it may have helped that actor Ron Perlman portrayed the character. He was a menacing villain who was willing to get his hands dirty, killing anyone that got in his way in The Blacklist Season 1 Episode 9. Plus, in addition to his presence, Luther was able to banter with Red and go toe to toe with him. And while he wound up killed in The Blacklist Season 1 Episode 10, he proved his worth as a memorable and dangerous villain for the series.

Most unsatisfying storyline: I like Ressler, but his whole addiction to drugs storyline was just disappointing. How many times have we seen this type of story in other shows? It felt more like the writers trying to give Ressler’s character something interesting to grapple with, but there was never this great payoff, and I was ready for him to just flush the pills and get on towards something else. Here’s to hoping Ressler gets a much better story for next season, because he’s definitely a character that deserves it.

Best reveal: There were some solid reveals from Liz’s mother being a KGB agent or that Harold wasn’t actually sick. But it was finding out that Liz was the true target of the cabal in The Blacklist Season 2 Episode 21, and that she was the person who infected the senator that was a great reveal. I didn’t see it coming until it pretty much happened, but it was a cool twist that really propelled everything towards Liz being on the run. Bet she never thought her trying to save the day would wind up having her as one of the most wanted.

Hopes for The Blacklist Season 3: I’m really hoping next season takes its time with Liz on the run and it's not wrapped up in one or two episodes. I really think this is the right type of shift for the series to keep things fresh and I’m interested to see where things go from here. I really hope we get some more stories involving characters such as Dembe, Ressler or Aram. I think there’s plenty to explore with them (just look at how Harold got a meaty storyline for this season!), and I want to go deeper with their characters. I’m also interested to see where the Tom relationship goes, as his story definitely doesn’t seem over. And of course, I want to know more about Liz’s past and her connection to Red etc. And can we definitively get an answer that Red isn’t her biological father?!?

Overall grade: A-

The Vampire Diaries Season 6: Sexiest Scene, Best Villain and More!

$

0

We're running down all of the best and worst of The Vampire Diaries Season 6, and even with the departure of Elena Gilbert, there is a lot more fun (and rather annoying) stuff to share.

What delighted us? Well, surprisingly, Steroline wasn't at all the wet blanket we expected. Enzo and Lily, on the other hand, certainly were. And Sarah Salvatore? Dud!

We still have the surprisingly good storyline ahead, as well as the most unwelcome. Can you guess which is which? The good news is you don't have to because it's all written out for you below.

Enjoy!

1. SEXIEST SCENE

Sexiest scene
SEXIEST SCENE: Let's get it on. Come on, guys. For everyone who wanted to poo poo on the Steroline parade, you cannot deny that when it comes time for them to get down to business, Caroline Forbes and Stefan Salvatore know how to make it happen. Whether it will fully carry into their humanity ridden bodies remains to be seen, but since the characters will still be portrayed by Candace Accola and Paul Wesley, we really should have nothing to fear when it comes to C H E M I S T R Y!! We say lock 'em up and throw away the key more often!

2. BEST VILLAIN

Best villain
BEST VILLAIN: Granted, there was only one true villain on The Vampire Diaries Season 6. But what a villain he was! Kai was scary, sarcastic, witty, intelligent and even sensitive at times. Chris Wood brought out the best in the character, rightfully earning him a starring role on Containment.

3. MOST WELCOME CHARACTER CHANGE

Most welcome character change
MOST WELCOME CHARACTER CHANGE: The show has likely gone to the humanity shut-off well one too many times. But it was a welcome change of pace to see Caroline less bubbly and more bad ass. Props to Candice Accola for showcasing her (frightening!) range.

4. BEST USE OF 90s MUSIC

The vampire diaries report card best use of 90s music
All things Gin Blossoms. Pancakes anyone? Will anyone really ever hear the Gin Blossoms and think of anything other than a prison world again? Tell the truth.

5. MOST UNWELCOME STORYLINE

Most unwelcome storyline
MOST UNWELCOME STORYLINE: Elena erasing her memories of Damon and then trying to get them back again. Felt way too much like a cliched amnesia storyline from a soap opera; and also like a forced way to create new Delena drama. She got her memories back though. Then she was shelved. Ahh. Good. Huh?

6. MOT CONFOUNDING STORYLINE

Mot confounding storyline
MOST CONFOUNDING STORYLINE: Enzo wanting to make Sarah Salvatore beg to be a vampire... for some reason. This never really went anywhere and never really stood a chance. Enzo will be shown some more confounding love later on in this report card, so stay tuned! Poor bastard.

Supernatural Season 10 Report Card: Grade It!

$
0
0

The Mark of Cain was at the center of Supernatural Season 10 as Dean attempted to deal with it and Sam tried to get rid of it. That and the brothers trying to work together through it all.

Demon Dean and the return of Cain were some positive highlights, while the lack of interesting storylines for favorites Castiel and Crowley was disappointing. And the absence of a major big bad (sorry, Rowena) was especially noticeable.

And while there seemed to be more mediocre case of the week episodes than usual, when Supernatural was on, it was on like that joyous roar of the Impala, reminding us just exactly why we love this show. It also is extremely impressive that the series has passed 200 episodes and is looking to come back for Supernatural Season 11.

Who else is excited to see Sam and Dean working together and facing off against the Darkness?!?

But for now, grab a piece of pie and let’s go over the tenth season in the latest TV Fanatic report card…

Sam vs. Dean - Supernatural Season 10 Episode 23

Best episode: I really enjoyed demon Dean in Supernatural Season 10 Episode 1, Supernatural Season 10 Episode 2, and Supernatural Season 10 Episode 3, and Supernatural Season 10 Episode 5 was a solid 200th episode.

But it was Supernatural Season 10 Episode 22 that proved to be a riveting and engrossing hour as Dean went on a Stein rampage and Sam attempted to kill Crowley. I cared about Cyrus Styne and was worried during the Castiel and Dean struggle. This was an edge-of-your-seat hour with fantastic acting and pacing that was the perfect lead-in to the finale.

Worst episode: There’s always going to be some less than stellar episodes, it happens, but I was bored by Supernatural Season 10 Episode 16. There was way too much backstory on a ghost I didn’t care about at all, and then there was plenty of time spent on trying to make Rowena turn into some big bad. Plus, Sam and Dean seemed disinterested in the case themselves. This was not an hour I’d be clamboring to rewatch again.

Best new character: I was intrigued by Cole’s appearance in Supernatural Season 10 Episode 1. He wasn’t a bad guy, he wasn’t even initially aware of monsters, etc., and he was a dangerous force out for revenge against Dean. We not only got to learn more about him, but he began to learn more about Sam and Dean, even coming to help them out later on. He was definitely a positive addition to the series and I’d be interested in seeing him again.

Worst new character: Rowena was introduced at the very end of Supernatural Season 10 Episode 3, and there was some exciting mystery and menace surrounding her character. Unfortunately, the more we got of her, the less I wanted to see her. She never became a big bad like I (or probably even the writers) were hoping. Instead, she seemed like an over the top character stuck annoying Crowley and not doing much else.

Her escape in Supernatural Season 10 Episode 23 means we’ll be seeing more of her, but I’m just not sure another season will help make her that scary villain in the end. But I’m always hopeful for the best!

Most surprising song played during an episode:“There was a Taylor Swift song on the bus that I hopped to the motel, and, uh, I liked it Sam. I liked it a lot.”

Supernatural delivers some great rock songs, and I’m always looking forward to when “Carry on Wayward Son” starts, but I never thought I’d hear Taylor Swift on the show. Yet there was something fun about the way “Shake It Off” was used on Supernatural Season 10 Episode 12, and it was a humorous way to cap off a standout episode.

Hopes for Season 11: With the Mark of Cain gone and the brothers choosing family in Supernatural Season 10 Episode 23, I’m really hoping to see Sam and Dean working together as a team. I’m sure there will be some tiffs here and there, but it’d be great to see them on a far more unified front this time, especially when it comes to fighting the supernatural and even more so the Darkness.

I’m really hoping the Darkness proves to be an exciting and formidable foe. And if the Darkness gets a human form, I’m hoping its a little different than just some guys in suits. There’s a lot of possibilities and directions this story could go, and really, it’s exciting to be getting a new big bad.

While Supernatural Season 10 was a fair season, I’m hoping the upswing of the last episodes carries over into Supernatural Season 11. I want to see that Supernatural spark again. If anything, I’m just hoping the next season feels like it’s got a direction and destination in its story, some more consistency, and an exciting and stakes filled journey for both Sam and Dean.

Overall grade: C+

The Originals Season 2: Best Twist, Biggest Sobfest & More!

$

We're giving The Originals Season 2 the TV Fanatic Report Card treatment!

We're ticking down the best and worst episode, as well as the best and worst plot twist. Dahlia's name comes up a lot, and while she was a part of the best plot twist, she was also the biggest letdown of the season.

We've picked the most gruesome death, the most welcome character addition and the surprisingly good storyline. Find out where The Originals Season 2 Episode 14, "I Love You, Goodbye," came into play or how the events of The Originals Season 2 Episode 7, "Chasing the Devil's Tail," stacked up against the rest.

Read on and let us know what you would have chosen in the comments!

1. BEST EPISODE

Best episode
The Originals Season 2 Episode 14, "I Love You, Goodbye," or as we like to call it, My Big Fat Werewolf Wedding, was one of the strongest episodes of the season. Any time all the major players – as well as the smaller ones – are pulled into the same place for a big event, you know you're going to have a winner.

Hayley's marriage to Jackson was as heartbreaking for Haylijah fans as it was romantic for Jayley fans, and that was all wrapped up in an impressive bit of mythology to boot. And then Kol's tragic farewell as he died in the arms of his siblings just kicked it over the edge with feelings. Not even Klaus' evil machinations could put a damper on this excellent episode.

2. WORST EPISODE

Worst episode
The season finale, The Orignals Season 2 Episode 22, "Ashes to Ashes," has been a point of contention among critics. Some think it was epic, others think it was pretty weak sauce. We tend to side with the latter. Season finales are a time for your big guns, and The Originals pulled out a grand total of zero guns in their finale episode. Dahlia was defeated – predictably, Esther died, and they all lived happily ever after. Huh?

Forget the fact that Hayley barely even made an appearance the entire hour, there was little to no tease for what we can expect next season. Not even Claire Holt could make this episode a success, and that's when you know you've taken a wrong turn. Suffice it to say, Season 2 ended with a whimper rather than a bang.

3. BREATH OF FRESH AIR

Breath of fresh air
The Originals was just never the same after Claire Holt left, so understandably, the news that she was being recast was met with cries of anger and outrage. But as it turns out, Maisie Richardson-Sellers nailed the character right away and actually managed to breathe some new life into the show. New-Bekah was a total success.

4. SURPRISINGLY GOOD STORYLING

Surprisingly good storyling
Davina becoming the Regent of the witches. Davina grew up a lot this season, and she's no longer just a chess piece on the board. Now that she's got quite a bit of firepower, not to mention nine covens backing her, she's going to be a force to be reckoned with. A force for Klaus to reckon with specifically, if past grudges are any indicator.

5. CHARACTER WHO NEEDS TO DIE

Character who needs to die
There's a reason Cami won the "Most Unnecessary Character" trophy in TV Fanatic's 2015 Finale Awards. Besides the will-they-won't-they romance between her and Klaus, there's really no reason for Cami to be hanging around chewing scenery and screen time. On a show where everyone else is entirely integral, Cami's just kind of… around. It's well past time to kill off the brave bartender and replace her with someone who actually matters.

6. CHARACTER WHO SHOULD NEVER DIE

Character who should never die
After losing Aiden, it's safe to say that Josh will probably be sticking around for a while, and thank goodness for it! Josh brings levity, joy, and adorableness to every scene he's in, which is a refreshing change of pace from the ultra-dramatic Mikaelsons sometimes. Everyone needs a good, sarcastic sidekick who tells it like it is! The day Josh dies is the day I stop showing up for this rodeo.

Even though it was sad to see our favorite revengers go this year, we've still drummed up the best, the worst, and the weird of Revenge Season 4 for you!

While we loved Daniel and Emily's witty repartee, and Nolan's fantastic spinoff potential, we could have done without Ben what's-his-face, and greedy Grayson money grabs.

We've also got the moment that made you go "awwww" as well as the one that made you go WTF?

Tell us what you think of our list, and more importantly, start brainstorming ideas to get this spinoff on the air... pronto!

1. BEST EPISODE

Best episode
The episode that stood out most this season had to be the one where David tricked Nolan into going on national television and humiliating himself. Not only did we get sister feels from Charlotte and Emily's team up, we got to see David get a little revenge action of his own when he assumed Nolan cheated Amanda out of her inheritance. A mixup of Shakespearean proportions!

2. WORST EPISODE

Worst episode
The series finale of Revenge felt like someone had written an awesome cliffhanger, found out they were cancelled, and then went back and wrote "And they all lived happily ever after, screw this, I'm out of here." Storylines like David's cancer and Emily's relationship with Jack were fast-tracked in a kind of embarrassingly obvious way that just didn't ring true.

3. WORST USE OF A SIDE CHARACTER

Worst use of a side character
Ben showed some serious promise towards the beginning of the season, but eventually his storyline became totally bizarre. From one episode to the next he either adored Emily or hated her, and he was an ally then an enemy. Add in his weird ex-girlfriend episode and his out-of-nowhere death? Yeah, Ben was just all over the place.

4. SURPRISINGLY GOOD STORYLINE

Surprisingly good storyline
Daniel and Emily's relationship was always dicey because of her big secret, but once the air was cleared and everything was out in the open... they were kind of amazing together. Their honest advice and almost-friendship felt like a refreshing change of pace for the characters, and we were sad to see it go when Daniel died.

5. AWWWWW MOMENT

Awwwww moment
Emily giving Jack a puppy at their wedding brought a tear to everyone's eyes. Sammy was the one to bring them together in Season 1, so it was a touching callback to see them adopt a new canine companion in the finale!

6. BIGGEST WTF? MOMENT

Season long wtf
We've already picked the finale out as the worst episode of them all, but this particular finale moment was the worst of the worst. Victoria died and Emily received her heart in a last minute transplant? But then it was all a dream! Or was it...? Yeah, that was a pretty heavy dose of stupid right there.

Grey's Anatomy Season 11: Best Kiss, Worst Death & More!

Grey's Anatomy Season 11 brought us the most horrible, shocking death yet, but it also offered a lot of great moments.

Much of the season returned to its core, allowing us to see Meredith deal with new struggles and shine as a surgeon.

Read on for the best episode, biggest shock, most romantic moment, and more.

1. Best Episode

Best episode the distance
On Season 11 Episode 14, titled "The Distance," it's finally time for Amelia to take on the impossible in this episode and try to remove Dr. Herman's tumor. It not only offered an opportunity for all of the other surgeons to come together as they gathered to watch, but it also let Amelia shine as a mentor. The surgery places Amelia very obviously in the shoes of Derek, as she stands there with the clock ticking, trying to decide where to start. Even Richard says he's seen Derek in exactly that position before.

2. Episode That Made Us Want to Punch the Television Set

Meredith is leaving greys anatomy s11e22
Season 11 Episode 22, the episode that followed the death of Derek, was an utter disappointment. At least if we were going to lose such a key character, more time should have been spent on the way each character dealt with it. The massive time jump was too much, and there were too many missed opportunities.

3. Best Kiss

Best kiss
Amelia shows up to visit Owen, but finds herself embarrassed and starts to walk away. He stops her and says, "I'm going to kiss you now, so don't say anything," before they have the most memorable kiss of the season. #Omelia for the win!

4. Most Underutilized Character

Most underutlized character
Alex Karev. While it was nice to see Alex's character continue to evolve as the guy who supports his friends and actually gives some pretty decent advice, we simply didn't get enough of him this season. And by extension, we didn't get a chance to see more of his relationship with Jo, either.

5. Worst New Character

Worst new character
Maggie has potential, but she hasn't won us over yet. It's hard enough to handle the fact that Meredith has another new-found sister she never knew about, but she's also not a character we're ready to love.

6. Character We Grew to Love

Dr april kepner greys anatomy s11e1
April Kepner was one of my least favorite characters from the time she arrived. That is, until this season. April has become tougher, stronger, and more surprising since the loss of her child and her decision to go overseas. You have to agree with Bailey on this one: "I like this Kepner. I never thought I would like Kepner. You know, old Kepner – there was pigtails, bunny rabbits, and smiling. Lots of smiling. But Kepner the reboot, Kepner 2.0, she's crazy. She's fierce. She's womaned up. Thank you, United States Army."

Scandal Season 4: Most Valuable Gladiator, Worst Episode & More!

$

0

There's no doubt that Scandal Season 4 had plenty to discuss, and that's just what we're going to do in our TV Fanatic Report Card.

Whether it was kidnapping, a stabbing, the slit throat of a high-profile guest star or the reveal of just what it looks like in the first lady's nether regions, there's probably a hash tag for that to drive discussion onward and upward.

We hope this does the same. Chat about the best and worst before Scandal Season 5 takes the airwaves by storm!

1. BEST EPISODE

Best episode
Scandal Season 4 Episode 14 was a bold piece of storytelling for Shonda Rhimes and company. "The Lawn Chair" was an episode examining the death of a black teenager at the hands of a white cop, a narrative we've unfortunately seen in real life too. The episode wasn't for everyone, with some arguing it was unrealistic and poorly timed. But no matter where you fell on the hate it or love it spectrum, you can't deny that it was a powerful piece of television. Poignant, emotional and thought-provoking, it was Scandal at its best.

2. WORST EPISODE

Worst episode
I'm sorry, but what in the world was THAT season finale? What actually happened? For about 3/4 of Scandal Season 4 Episode 22, Rowan/Eli/Command/Dad continued to reign supreme, until Olivia was able to get him arrested on embezzlement charges. Seriously, Scandal? You can do better than that. And is Quinn going to actually shoot Huck? Do we even care? Let's not even talk about all the work this season did in making Fitz and Mellie into a cohesive unit, only to have it burned down in 2 minutes. At least Olitz was able to get their moment. I'm sure it will last this time.

3. MOST CRINGEWORTHY HUCK SCENE

Most cringeworthy huck scene
This could easily go to Huck killing someone in front of his son, but his brutal killing of Sue (guest star Lena Dunham) was even more disturbing. Huck has been to hell and back and you can't help but sympathize with him at times, but then he goes and brutally murders a woman to "keep her quiet" and all sympathy goes out the window. Huck has been a problem for a while and this move did him no favors. RIP Sue and that ridiculous wig.

4. BEST OLITZ MOMENT

Best olitz moment
Olitz is here to stay, whether you're Team Jake or Team Anyone Else, so it's time we all just get used to it. Olitz always has their fair share of emotional talks and sexy encounters, but a very quiet moment between the two proved to be the best moment these two have had in awhile. After the kidnapping and Fitz's decision to go to war, Olivia was done with Fitz and even took off the ring she vowed she would never take off. When she showed up to Cyrus's wedding with the ring back where it belonged, Fitz knew he was back in the game. Cue the swooning Olitz shippers all around the world.

5. BEST TWIST

Best twist
Jake Ballard was stabbed repeatedly at the end of Scandal Season 4 Episode 19 leading fans everywhere to wonder (and worry) if he could really be dead. Shonda Rhimes has proven that she's not afraid to kill major characters, so anything was possible. Luckily, he survived despite his severe injuries. Scandal would not be the same without Jake!

6. BEST RELATIONSHIP

Best relationship
There should probably be an asterisk here because things imploded in the finale, but the relationship between Fitz and Mellie has never been stronger than it was this season. They found a great balance this year and really came together as a team. It was nice to see them get to a point where they could truly respect and support one another. There may no longer be a romantic love between the two, but there is a deep connection and their friendship was one of the more unexpectedly sweeter aspects of the season.

Game of Thrones Season 5: Best Death, Cheesiest CGI and More!

$
0
0

That's right, Game of Thrones Season 5 certainly had its ups and downs. Below we discuss the finer points in our TV Fanatic Report Card.

This year there was another royal wedding at King's Landing, we visited Dorne (barely), and Tyrion made his way to Meereen. Later, Cersei was imprisoned and took a walk of atonement. Jon fought the White Walker army, Arya trained to be an assassin and Sansa married that evil bastard. There were deaths and shocking moments to spare. Let's not forget dragons, yeah we got plenty of dragon action too!

Feel free to sound off in the comments and let us know if you agree or disagree with us. And relive a few season highlights courtesy of our animated GIFs.

1. Best Episode

Best episode
The Game of Thrones Season 5 Finale was easily one of the best in the series' history. Not only did many story arcs reach their conclusion, but we were left with a few cliffhangers as well. After her walk of atonement, Cersei met the new and improved Mountain. No doubt the monster will wreak havoc on the sparrows next season. Daenerys couldn't get poor Drogon to move, and wandered off only to be captured by the Dothraki. Stannis got what he deserved... or did he? The camera cuts away several times, leaving us wondering if a character truly met their maker. Would Brienne ever spare him? Did Sansa and Theon survive that jump? And what about Jon Snow? Is there any chance he'll be back for Season 6? The slower epiosdes set the ground work that allowed this finale to really pay off.

2. Slowest Burn

Slowest burn
It's tough to pick a "worst" episode because each installment this year advanced the story nicely. The first half of the season was basically setting up those last three incredibly solid episodes. That said, we're going to go with Arya's Season 5 storyline as the "slowest burn" (mostly because we hate to call Thrones boring).

Arya's journey was interesting, but Jaqen H'ghar's cryptic dialog and the events inside the House of Black and White were hard to follow. Of course, we later learned the Faceless Men washed the dead bodies to acquire their face for the Hall of Faces. Sure, it all worked just fine, but watching Arya kill Ser Meryn Trant proving she was not "No One" was the moment we had been waiting for.

3. Season 5 MVP

Season 5 mvp
We all love to hate Cersei Lannister, but we wouldn't wish the hell she went through this season on our worst enemy. At first, it was humbling to see her in that grimy cell lapping up water from the floor. Cersei has made so many people miserable through the years – including Queen Margaery this season – but the High Sparrow nearly broke her with the walk of atonement.

Once she suffered that humiliation and reached The Red Keep, she had survived. Chances are there will be no trial for her in Season 6, the Frankenmountain will see to that you'll see. Lena Headey's performance was brilliant. We felt for Cersei, regardless of whether or not we like the character.

4. Most Disappointing Character(s)

Most disappointing character s
There was such excitement surrounding Oberyn Martell's eight illegitimate daughters and their vengeance this season. However, the Sand Snakes were not only poorly fleshed out but felt like something out of Xena: Warrior Princess. How much time did we spend in Dorne this season, half an hour?

Aside from the scene above, the Sand Snakes were never a true threat. The actual ring leader was always Ellaria Sand, who with one kiss in the finale rendered the existence of the Sand Snakes pointless. If we do see these "warriors" again, hopefully we'll be given a chance to spend time with them. Show us why they're a threat rather than trying to convince us via silly monologues.

5. Epic Character Meeting

Epic character meeting
Tyrion and Daenerys' face-to-face was one we've all been awaiting for years. When it finally happened, most fans agreed their discussion was well worth it. From Tyrion introducing himself as "the Gift," to bonding with Dany as "two terrible children of two terrible fathers," their time together was priceless.

While he was definitely impressed with Daenerys early on, the moment she rode Drogon was the true game changer. Tyrion realized then he must help her reclaim the Iron Throne. These two make a formidable team. Once they are reunited next season, the journey to Westeros begins. We can't wait!

6. Best Battle

Best battle
Jon Snow (as well as fans of the books) had no idea what was coming when they arrived at Hardhome. The massacre that followed ranks right up there with some of Thrones best battle sequences, including Blackwater and The Wall. Did you know HBO increased the budget specifically for this battle sequence? Interesting that Dany's flight aboard Drogon looked slightly cheesy, yet the battle of Hardhome was flawless.

Plus, we won't soon forget the Night's King raising his arms and bringing the dead back to life. Will the mysterious leader of the White Walkers save Jon, and make him a lieutenant in his army of the dead? It's a stretch, but we really want Jon Snow to return, even as a walker.

Bones Season 10: Best Episode, Favorite Booth/Brennan Moment & More!

0

Bones Season 10 gave us a horribly shocking death that still has us reaching for the tissues on occasion, plus a brand new struggle for Booth and Brennan not long after they got some happy news.

Check out our report card for the best and worst episodes, favorite guest star, most underutilized character, and more!

1. Best Episode

What a good looking couple bones s10e10
It seems like an obvious choice, but Bones Season 10 Episode 10, the Alfred-Hitchcock inspired 200th episode pulled out all the stops to make the anniversary completely unforgettable. We loved every single second of this fun episode! It even gave us a chance to see Booth and Brennan fall for each other all over again in the most adorable way.

2. Worst Episode

Worst episode
Here's the thing. We LOVE Seeley Booth. We adore him. And Bones Season 10 Episode 9 stuck him behind a desk (um, for traffic school?) and effectively kept him out of the story, making for an episode that wasn't nearly as enjoyable as it could have been. It was like he was there as an afterthought, as opposed to being our leading man.

3. Death We Still Aren't Over

Death we still arent over
Way back on Bones Season 10 Episode 1, we were shocked when Lance Sweets was brutally murdered, and we cried loads of ugly tears. Thankfully, his memory was honored in several ways throughout the season -- with an emotional arrival of his son (named Seeley Lance Wick Sweets) and even a the last love story he wrote about Booth and Brennan. We'll never get over losing such a loveable character. RIP Dr. Sweets.

4. Character We Grew to Love

Character we grew to love
We weren't sure at first if we could trust James Aubrey, especially since his arrival came just as we lost Sweets, but he has quickly become one of the most fun characters to watch on Bones. He's a quirky guy who loves to eat (seriously, he's ALWAYS eating) and isn't easily intimidated. More importantly, he's fiercely loyal. Who doesn't love that?

5. Most Painful Separation

Booth investigates the world of underground poker bones
Booth's gambling addiction became a big issue in Bones Season 10, resurfacing because of a case that involved a poker game. When Brennan found out Booth was gambling again, and he had subsequently put their family in danger, she made him leave. Watching them struggle to find their way back to each other (as well as seeing Booth struggle to overcome his addiction) was hard to watch, but good for the characters all the same.

6. Favorite Booth and Brennan Moment

Favorite booth and brennan moment
Nothing compares to the moment when Brennan and Booth find out they are having another baby. Booth is so happy he somersaults over the bed, showing off a cute, giddy side of his character that we love. The look on Brennan's face is priceless (and she's also thrilled she can keep eating peanut butter cookies). The happy news will later mean they rethink their futures, but in this moment, it's pure joy.

Killjoys Season 1: Killer Twists, Best Villain, Worst Hook Up and More!

$

0

I've got to say, Killjoys Season 1 turned out to be a truly pleasant surprise.

While the premise "space bounty hunters" was an easy sell, I honestly did not expect this series to become one of my favorites of the year. Everything from the worldbuilding, to the cast and supporting players, to the music and VFX blew my mind.

I watch tons of television, and it's rare for me to connect with a new show on this level. Michelle Lovretta (Lost Girl) and her team crafted a world reminiscent of some of our favorite 80's space adventures like Star Wars or Aliens.

Let's revisit a few of the season's highlights and share your faves with me below!

1. Best Episode

Best episode
Though the season finale is right up there and since I've got to pick just one, let's go with Killjoys Season 1 Episode 7 "Kiss Kiss, Bye Bye." The series had been building toward the mysterious Dr. Jaeger reveal and it did not dissapoint. This installment was not just the one where Dutch and D'avin hooked up, but it sent the team on an emotional roller coaster when big bro nearly killed Johnny. The performances were top notch, the big Dutch/D'av fight scene brutal, and the fallout changed the Killjoys dynamic. Plus, we met Carleen and spent time in Utopia, Delle Seyah returned and Dr. Jaeger turned out to be a piece of work.

2. Least Favorite (Not Worst) Episode

Least favorite not worst episode
I'm not sure if the villain, R'yo, is to blame or the fact Killjoys Season 1 Episode 2 "The Sugar Point Run" was your typical rescue mission, but looking back this wasn't my favorite Killjoys adventure. That's not to say it was a terrible episode. There were fun moments, such as Johnny outsmarting the scavengers, Dutch and D'av bonding, and especially when she cut Simon open to pull out the "Smuggler's Nut." In the finale, as the Company begins bombing Old Town, Dutch mentions Sugar Point making this installment incredibly relevant to the bigger picture.

3. Phenomenal Worldbuilding

Phenomenal worldbuilding
From the moment we were introduced to The Quad in Killjoys Season 1 Episode 1 "Bangarang" , it was clear the worldbuilding on this series was going to be a major highlight. Qresh, Arkyn, Joy, Jakk, Hok, names like D'avin and Khlyen instantly ground the universe making it feel lived in and authentic. The politics, religion, fashion, organizations like the Company or the RAC make Killjoys more than just some space shoot 'em up. Not that it's not fun, if there's anything you can say about this show is it's a total blast. However, the worldbuilding adds a level of depth you don't find on most genre TV series.

4. Best Character

Best character
Was there any doubt Dutch would take this one? She's Princess Leia, Ripley, Buffy, Agent Carter, basically everything a strong female protagonist should be. Why can't a woman be a badass assassin, yet vulnerable at the same time? To her credit, Hannah John-Kamen managed to make Dutch tough and likable. It's a fine line to walk, and it takes a very talented actor to make you fall in love with someone as damaged as Dutch. Her relationship with Johnny is unique in that it's purely platonic. They're like brother and sister with no sexual tension screwing things up. Dutch is complicated, hopefully we'll get a chance to learn even more about her next season.

5. Favorite Dutch and Johnny Moment

Favorite dutch and johnny moment
There were so many great moments between these two characters. That said, the closing moment of Killjoys Season 1 Episode 3 "The Harvest" remains one of my favorites. John had been questioning his place on the team with his badass big brother back in the picture. Dutch's line, "If you're worried about being replaced, don't be. You're irreplaceable to me" gets me every time. It's not just the way Hannah John-Kamen delivered the line, but Aaron Ashmore's reaction to her words as well. It was a wonderful moment between the two, and helped the audience understand just how much they mean to one another.

6. Coolest Ongoing Mystery

Coolest ongoing mystery
From the moment Level 6 was mentioned on Killjoys Season 1 Episode 6 "One Blood" , I knew it was totally a thing. Don't believe me, just go back and check out my reviews. Did I ever imagine Khlyen was one of them? Not at all. Which made that particular reveal so damn cool. Bellus mentioned Killjoys going missing (like Fancy Lee), gene splicing, reanimation and we watched D'avin go through that nanite torture ordeal. How does all this tie together? Well, I'm sure even more will be revealed in Season 2.

Zoo Season 1 Wrap-Up: Best Animal Attack, Hot Kisses and More!

$

We went on an adventure around the world this summer with Zoo Season 1, continent hopping alongside the Zoo Crew as they tried to solve the mystery of strange animal behavior, and find a cure.

There were some fantastic highs from this summer series; the animals were amazing, plenty of shocking surprises, the incredible Xander Berkeley, and characters that we grew to love and root for week after week.

There were also moments that left us scratching our heads. Who was that guy with the wonky eye? Why were there so many bat episodes? Where did Jamie get such a terrible tattoo?

Overall, Zoo was the show that kept us captivated week after week, and we're sad that the show's summer season is over.

Let's wrap-up some of the best and worst moments of Zoo Season 1!

1. Most Badass Zoologist - Jackson

Most badass zoologist jackson
When Jackson and Chloe came face to face with the lions that were attacking Botswana on Zoo Season 1 Episode 1, it would have left me petrified and wetting my pants. Jackson however, stared the lion down, and it was badass.

2. Animal Attack We Loved Most - Wine Bear

Animal attack we loved most wine bear
Most bears that are preparing to hibernate for the winter (or summer in this case,) store up on good fats and yummy carbs. This bear broke into a kitchen in search of some good French wine. Right on, bear…right on.

3. Animal Attack Snooze - Bats, Bats, and Bats

Animal attack snooze bats bats and bats
Zoo switched up animal attacks nearly every week, with the exception of one three-week span where they hunted bats in Rio. It felt like they were never going to be able to take down the winged rodents. By the time the bats were exterminated, I had forgotten what damage they’d done to begin with.

4. Most Unbelievable Animal Attack - Jailbreak Wolves

Most unbelievable animal attack jailbreak wolves
Wolves are smart animals, there’s no argument there. Wolves are not smart enough, however, to plan a high security prison break-in and successfully release a prisoner from jail. This was just a little bit of a stretch.

5. Strangest Animal Behavior - Cats in a Tree

Strangest animal behavior cats in a tree
Back on Zoo Season 1 Episode 1, numerous housecats that we later discovered were somehow communicating over long distances, sat together in a tree. We never did completely find out why they were there or what they were talking about. Was it a special Kitty Council meeting perhaps? Maybe they were having a gripe session about their owners failing to clean their litter boxes on time.

6. Most Disturbing Animal Attack - Birds Attack Mom

Most disturbing animal attack birds attack mom
In Zoo Season 1 Episode 9, nothing has ever left me feeling as queasy and uncomfortable as watching a mother shielding her baby from attacking birds while being pecked to death.

Castle Midseason 8 Report Card: Grade It!

$
0
0

It’s time for the Castle Mid-Season Report Card, something that I normally look forward to writing each year.

But this has been the bizarro season of Castle, where most of what I've loved about my favorite show has disappeared and characters I once adored are almost unrecognizable.

As they say, misery loves company so I invite you to take a look back at the first half of Castle Season 8 with me.

Back At the Precinct - Castle Season 8 Episode 2

Best Episode: In the past I’ve had a list of episodes I’ve really enjoyed and had to parse out the best, but in season 8 that wasn’t the case. This season it’s hard to find any I’ve entirely liked and certainly none that I’ve loved, but if I have to choose one, it will be Castle Season 8 Episode 7. "The Last Seduction" felt like it had the most Caskett chemistry we’ve seen all season, perhaps because our dynamic duo actually shared some scenes together which have been few and far between. Rick setting up the anniversary surprise in Beckett’s office was very sweet, and Ryan and Espo finally worked out their ridiculous issues. And we actually got a romantic Caskett scene at the end, even if it was a "time in" from their "time out" nonsense. In a nutshell, this was the only episode all season that left me feeling hopeful that the show could find its former glory.

Worst Episode: There were plenty of bad episodes this season or merely mediocre episodes with bad moments, but Castle Season 8 Episode 3 "PhDead" was the worst. A dark, violent, and disturbing murder. Alexis and Castle partnered together. Castle deciding he had to win his wife back, never mind the fact that he hadn’t done anything to drive her away. Lanie comparing Castle’s disappearance to Kate walking out. Alexis parading around like a Victoria's Secret Supermodel. Even Rick and Kate’s theorizing, felt forced. Let’s face it, any hour that gives us only a few scant minutes of Caskett sharing screen time is just all wrong, and not even Nathan Fillion in a pair of glasses could save this one.

Best Trend: The dumbed down, sitcom humor…no. The ridiculous Castle P.I. arc…absolutely not. Alexis all but ditching college to partner with her father…dear God no. Sorry, but there hasn’t been one good trend from Castle season 8.

Worst Trend: That all of our favorite characters are so out of character. Martha’s giving horrible advice. Lanie blamed Rick for his abduction. Ryan shoots at shadows. At least Alexis as super spy has been tempered in the latest episodes, but shouldn’t she be in college and focusing on a real career? Not to mention Kate choosing obsession over her marriage and Rick taking months to ask any questions. What happened to our ever curious mystery writer? Speaking of which...

Biggest Disappointment: What ever happened to a Writer and his Muse. I miss Castle as a mystery writer consulting with the team at the 12th precinct to solve quirky crimes. For that matter I miss Beckett as a detective. This show works best when our core foursome, Castle, Beckett, Esposito and Ryan, work together as a team. The new P.I./Captain dynamic doesn’t allow for much of that, and it’s been really disappointing.

Favorite Moment: Rick and Kate taking a time in from their time out. For all the talk about Castle being a great love story, we actually get to see very little love or romance on screen. Kissing, cuddling, or all out sex scenes, preferably at the loft, will always rank tops on my list no matter what the circumstances.

Worst Story Arc: The Caskett separation. Of all the stupid decisions this season, this ranks number one. The magic of this show is the chemistry between Rick Castle and Kate Beckett. Fans waited years to see them as a couple, then got cheated out of a real wedding. Then not even a year into that marriage, and Caskett ends up apart! No matter what the reasons, it has been the worst story arc in the show’s history and has tarnished a couple that many adored. Can they get the magic back? I’m not sure but I’m holding out hope.

Most Boring Plot Twist: LokSat. The story arc concerning Beckett’s mother’s murder worked because it was so personal to her and defined her character but after six seasons of that conspiracy it was time for it to end. Rick Castle’s disappearance was a convoluted mess that is best left in the past. Personally, I’ve got conspiracy fatigue. LokSat, with whatever big, bad, evil is behind it, holds absolutely no interest for me. After half a season, they haven’t made me care a bit about this plot.

Most Disappointing Regular Character: Martha Rodgers. I LOVE Martha. She’s always been Castle’s closest confidant and has given odd but usually good advice. This season Martha feels like a caricature of her former self.

I don’t feel the heart in the scenes between Rick and Martha that I always had and listening to her tell him over and over again to sit on his hands and wait for his wife to come home was excruciating.

Best Guest Star: Stephnie Weir as Mia Laszlo in Castle Season 8 Episode 5, “The Nose.” She saved this episode with her sarcastic comebacks and witty one-liners. Also Castle showed his heart by helping her try to live her life to the fullest. This hour had some really funny moments, and it could have been the best episode if not for the dumbed down humor that gave us fart jokes or tried to reassure us that Kate still loved Castle because Mia could smell it. Ugh.

Worst New Character: Vikram Singh. After the first three episodes, I would have said Hayley, but she’s become slightly less annoying as time has gone on. Vikram, however, makes me wish someone would shoot him every time he opens his mouth. He’s anti-Castle and anti-Caskett, and has inexplicably earned Beckett’s complete trust while she shut out her husband and real partner.

To be honest, both Vikram and Hayley are unnecessary add-ons who feel as though they just don’t belong. I’ll be happy to see them both go, but I’ll cheer if someone actually puts a bullet in Vikram to end him.

What we hope to see come February: That Rick Castle comes out of the shower in a towel as Beckett wakes up from the horribly bad dream that has been the first half of Castle season 8.

Being that that probably won’t happen, even though it’s at the top of my list to Santa, In lieu of that, I’d love to see the following:

  • Castle get back to the smart, witty humor that attracted me to it in the first place and drop the silly dance moves, jazz hands, and sitcom comedy.
  • Rick Castle goes back to being a writer and NYPD consultant and quits the P.I. gig.
  • Kate Beckett ditches the Captain’s chair and goes back to working with her team. I don’t care how they pull it off.
  • Alexis heads back to college and picks a real career.
  • Martha goes back to giving her odd but brilliant advice.
  • Hayley and Vikram leave the city by whatever means necessary.
  • Castle and Beckett deal with their trust issues, for real, and for more than one scene.
  • Actual Caskett romance and not just jokes about naked punishment.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve loved Castle from the pilot episode. I’d love to see it continue for Castle Season 9 and beyond…but not like this. This cast still holds the magic. I just hope they can find a way to get back to it.

I took a look back at the last three Castle mid-season polls and this is what I found…

Castle Season 5 had 87.2% grade it as an A

Castle Season 6 had 71.0 % grade it as an A

Castle Season 7had 67. 7% grade it as an A

Here we go folks. It’s your chance to rate Castle Season 8 so far. Do you think my assessment is wrong? Do you really love it?

We've seen a favorite couple reunite, the tragic death of a little boy, and a family torn apart.

Check out our report card for the best and worst episodes, the biggest MVP moment, the worst advice, and more!

Then be sure to hit the comments and let us know if you agree!

1. Best Episode

Best episode
This has been a solid season so far with several great episodes, but we're giving the nod to Chicago PD Season 3 Episode 7 for not being at all what we expected. Instead of focusing on a school shooting, the Intelligence team uncovered a pedophile coach that had been abusing kids. Halstead really shined in this episode as he connected with one of the coach's victims and was able to relate to him.

2. Worst Episode

Worst episode
We haven't hated any of the episodes so far, but our least favorite goes to Chicago PD Season 3 Episode 8. The case involving an NSA informant and missing encrypted government chips just wasn't that interesting, nor was the side story involving Atwater pulling favors for the police captain's delinquent son.

3. Best Covert Operation

Best covert operation
While Chicago PD Season 3 Episode 8 was not our favorite episode, we absolutely loved Burgess on a mission to find out Platt's ring size. Her not-so-subtle move with the lotion was hilarious, and definitely seemed to confuse Platt. Still, the mission was a success!

4. Worst Ultimatum

Worst ultimatum
What was the deal with Olinsky's wife Meredith being so selfish and unsupportive? She demanded that Al get a paternity test and kicked him out of the house when he admitted to tearing up the results. We understand that this is not an easy situation for her, but she could at least make an effort to meet Michelle instead of being so cruel.

5. Biggest MVP Moment

Biggest mvp moment
Mouse came through in a big way when he managed to talk down and disarm a distraught father who's daughter was missing. While his methods were wrong, Mouse sympathized with his motive. Not only did Mouse diffuse the situation without anyone getting hurt, but he also removed the bullets from the gun so that the man's charges would be reduced. The rest of the team found the girl, but Mouse ensured she would return home with her father.

6. Storyline We're Glad is Over

Storyline were glad is over
Lindsay began the season on a downword spiral into drugs and alcohol that could have lasted a lot longer than it did. Thankfully, by the end of Chicago PD Season 3 Episode 1, Lindsay was back on the wagon and asking Voight for her job back. While it may have been more realistic for it to have taken more time for Lindsay to make her way back, we were okay with her rejoining Intelligence sooner rather than later.

Chicago Fire Midseason Report Card: Best Save, Biggest Tear-jerker and More!

Our firefighters went through an awful lot in the first half of Chicago Fire Season 4. Boden was arrested, Dawson lost a baby, and Severide lost his rank. Not to mention Herrmann was not left in the best of shape.

We are revisiting all the drama we've seen so far in our Chicago Fire Midseason Report Card including the best and worst episodes, the craziest conspiracy, the biggest mystery, and more!

Check out our picks and let us know if you agree!

1. Best Episode

Best episode
It's hard to argue against the action-packed Chicago Fire Season 4 Episode 1 for best episode. Casey was rescued, new characters were introduced, Severide lost his rank, and Dawson told Casey her big news. On top of that, there were two big cases with the crack house fire and Brett and Chili delivering a baby in the ambulance. So much of what occurred in the premiere set us up for the rest of the fall episodes.

2. Worst Episode

Worst episode
Okay, this one was really hard because we honestly liked them all. We didn't give any of the episodes less than a four star rating. Ultimately, we went with Chicago Fire Season 4 Episode 7 for worst episode because Riddle grew even more annoying and Boden continued to make things worse for himself by not letting Voight or his lawyers handle things. Also, we could have done without Otis pursuing Brett.

3. Best Save

Best save
Our firefighters had some great saves so far this season, but the most intense goes to the family stuck in the elevator between floors. Watching Casey and the father carefully walk across the board to safety had us on the edge of our seats. Thankfully, everyone made it out okay!

4. Most Obnoxious Couple

Most obnoxious couple
Remember the annoying neighbors that moved in next to Molly's? Unfortunately, so do we. They went to great lengths to try and get Molly's shut down, even after Herrmann tried to make peace with pie. Luckily, thanks to some old limestone, Molly's survived, and we hope this couple moved back to Oregon.

5. Strangest House Guest

Strangest house guest
This one goes to Donatello the tortoise, heroically saved from a burning RV by Herrmann. While Pouch was not a huge fan of the new house guest, he made for some great comic relief. It took some effort on their part, but thankfully the guys were able to track down Donatello's family and return him safely.

6. Biggest Tear-jerker

Biggest tear jerker
It was heartbreaking when Dawson and Casey lost the baby, and we couldn't help but tear up at Herrmann's touching story. Telling them that he and Cindy miscarried before going on to have five kids was exactly what the grieving couple needed to hear.

Grey's Anatomy Report Card: Best Episode, Biggest Cliffhanger & More!

We had no idea what to expect. Moving forward with a whole new season after the death of Derek could have gone horrible wrong or wonderfully right.

Thankfully, Grey's Anatomy Season 12 has been an awesome season so far, due in large part to the fact that the focus has returned to Meredith's character. The tone is also lighter, for the most part, despite some of the turns that seem to be heading our way.

Here's a look back at the first half of Grey's Anatomy Season 12!

1. Best Episode

Girls night greys anatomy s12e3
Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 3, "I Choose You," has been the best episode of the season so far. This was the episode that proved the show is returning to its roots, complete with a focus on Meredith, roommate drama, and a generally lighter tone (despite the patients the doctors are working with). It even gave Alex Karev some more screen time. This was an episode that was simply enjoyable to watch.

2. Best New Pairing

Best new pairing
Somehow, Richard has become Arizona's wing man, and it's pretty much the best thing ever. Richard shows that he's up for anything and willing to help. And besides, he also really enjoys trivia. This is a duo that we probably never would have expected, but they are so fun to watch.

3. Character Who Deserves More Screentime

Character who deserves more screentime
I can't wait for the day when Alex Karev stops being chosen as most underutilized character, but that day just hasn't come yet. We love Alex Karev, but too often, he's a side character rather than one who gets the focus. Based on the cliffhanger at the end of Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 8, though, it seems like this issue may be remedied when the series returns from hiatus.

4. Best Quote

Best quote
Maggie: You wanna know why bullies bully? It's 'cause they can. Maybe you've got it worse at home or maybe you're just bullying to keep from getting bullied, but really, it's because people like me, like this girl at our table, are alone and small and vulnerable. And pushing us around makes you feel better about your sad pathetic little lives. Not you guys, though. You're cool. Now.

5. Most Uncomfortable Episode

Most uncomfortable episode
Things took an awkward, nasty turn on Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Episode 5, when Callie brought her new girlfriend to meet the rest of the group. Turns out that Callie's girlfriend is the doctor who couldn't save Derek, and it made for the worst dinner party ever. It was also an incredibly painful episode to watch.

6. Favorite New Intern

Best new intern
Another season, another new group of interns. It's becoming tiresome, but there's usually at least one new intern who shines. This year, it's Andrew, who also happens to be Maggie's new love interest. He's confident, and he says it like it is, but he's also shown a sensitive side. Let's keep him around, okay? Let's not kill this one off.

Supergirl Midseason Report Card: Best Fight Scene, Scariest Villain & More!

The fall season introduced us to a new superhero.

Supergirl Season 1 is off to a great start, with a great mix of drama, action, and humor. We've had a chance to get to know the characters and have seen the promise the series holds for the future.

Our report card takes a look at the season so far with the best and worst episodes, the most heroic moment, the biggest reveal, and more!

Check out our picks and let us know yours!

1. Best Episode

Best episode
Supergirl started off strong and only got better as the season went on, so it is not surprising that Supergirl Season 1 Episode 8 is our choice for best episode. Astra returned equipped with a device that makes her immune to kryptonite, Cat learns the truth about Supergirl, and we are left with quite a cliffhanger as Non prepares to wreak havoc on Lord Technologies. Let's just say we can't wait to see what happens next!

2. Worst Episode

Worst episode
We truly loved them all, but decided to go with Supergirl Season 1 Episode 5. While we completely understand the reasoning behind airing it out of order, it made the James/Lucy subplot less interesting since we already knew they got back together. Plus, we would rather not see Kara attempt babysitting again.

3. Best Fight Scene

Best fight scene
There have been some incredible fight scenes so far, but the best were between Supergirl and Reactron on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 3. Reactron was a formidable foe, and very nearly killed Supergirl, but in the end she managed to stop him, something her cousin had never been able to do.

4. Biggest Reveal

Biggest reveal
We spent all season trying to figure out Hank and his glowy red eyes. We didn't know if he was a good guy or a bad guy, but his true identity (and allegiance) was finally revealed in Supergirl Season 1 Episode 7. Hank revealed himself to be J'onn J'onzz, aka the Martian Manhunter, and the entire scene was awesome. Only Alex knows the truth, but we assume it is only a matter of time before Kara finds out.

5. Most Surprising Character Development

Most surprising character development
Cat could have easily just been a one note evil boss who was nothing more than a thorn in Kara's side. Instead, she has grown into one of the most interesting characters in the series. She's smart, witty, and has developed into quite the mentor for Kara. We're excited to see the role she will play now that she knows Kara is Supergirl!

6. Super Power We Wish We Had

Super power we wish we had
Sure, we'd all love to be able to fly or possess super strength, but the super power we're most jealous of is Kara's alien metabolism! If only we could eat sticky buns every day and not gain any weight.
